> 3rd Istanbul Tour: the mosque of Soliman the Magnificent and the Istanbul Bazaars

A full-day to discover Constantinople, the ancient capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires!

  • Departure from the hotel at 9:00 AM to start with the visit of the Mosque of Suleiman the Magnificent.
  • It is not as visited as the Blue Mosque and yet just as beautiful and full of history. Located in the Süleymaniye district, on a hill majestically dominating the Golden Horn, Soliman the Legislator (for the Turkish people), did not choose the position of the construction of his mosque by chance: it is a location just remarkable, with exceptional scenery.

The outside of Süleymaniye Mosque – Istanbul Tour

A small culture detail:

The mosque of Süleymaniye Mosque is a “külliye”: it means a complex of several buildings.

It spreads over 70 hectares where we can count: a Koranic school and six colleges of theology, a library, a hammam, a restaurant of the heart “soup kitchen” (“aşevi” = house of meals), a caravanserai, a hospital, a hospice and shops. The mosque of Süleymaniye was declared World Heritage of UNESCO in 1985.

  • Visit the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul, which is the largest covered bazaar in the world with 45,000 m² of area and 200,000 m² with the open part. It has 58 streets, 18 gates and 4000 shops. Everything is sold here: antiques, rugs, food, furniture… Meet artisans, enter workshops, sip Turkish tea and maybe buy one or two things. Be sure that you will never be forced to buy or go into a shop because this is only a discovery tour.

  • Visit the Nuruosmaniye Mosque, built in 1755 by architect Simon Kalfa during the reign of Sultan Osman III. The Nuruosmaniye Mosque is therefore called Osman, to which has been added the prefix “Nuru” meaning “sacred light”. It is the first baroque mosque to be built.
